Hi! I’m Whitney, a registered dental hygienist and the creator of Teeth Talk Girl, and I’m writing to share with you how I use the BetterMouth app to stay on top of my oral hygiene routine (and how you can too)!
Whether you're working to improve your dental health, build better oral care habits, or just trying to remember to floss more often, this reliable and efficient app has made a big difference in my daily life, and in the lives of many of my patients.
Every morning, I brush my teeth using fluoride toothpaste and my electric toothbrush. Right after, I open the BetterMouth app to log my brushing session.
The app allows you to track your teeth brushing, tongue scraping, flossing sessions, and mouthwash use, making it easy to stick with a good oral hygiene routine.
Note: Since the American Dental Association recommends brushing twice a day and flossing once a day, I personally prefer to floss at night—but you can log it whenever it works best for you.
Anyway! My morning routine consists of brushing and tongue scraping, so I enter those into the app each morning and check my streak! That streak is a huge motivator — you’ll really want to keep it going. This simple habit has helped me make significant improvements in my oral hygiene and avoid common dental issues like plaque buildup and bad breath.
After lunch at work, I’ll often brush and floss again — especially if I had something sugary or sticky that could affect my tooth enamel or get trapped along my gum line.
The BetterMouth app also includes an audio-guided brushing timer, which ensures you practice proper brushing techniques for the full 2 minutes — especially helpful if you’re using a manual toothbrush. At work, I always use the timer (since I don't have my electric toothbrush with me) to make sure I’m getting a deep cleaning, removing food particles and plaque, and protecting my healthy smile. Then, after using the timer, the app automatically prompts me to log my brushing session!
My evening routine includes brushing, flossing, tongue scraping, and using anti-cavity mouthwash. That’s when I log all of it in the app.
Before BetterMouth, I wasn’t consistent with mouthwash — maybe a few times a week. But now, with daily tracking and reminders, I’m swishing every night with an anti-cavity mouthwash.
And while mouthwash isn’t a replacement for brushing and flossing, some mouthwashes can help prevent gum disease, tooth decay, and even respiratory infections by reducing bacteria.
Overall, this app has helped me improve my oral health and stick to a routine that supports a healthy mouth, which plays a big role in overall health, too!
As a dental hygienist and oral health coach, I recommend BetterMouth to all my patients. It’s a great app that transforms oral care into something fun, interactive, and motivating — rather than a chore.
Here’s why I love it:
As the oral health adviser for BetterMouth, I also help create science-backed content that’s doctor recommended, including quizzes, interactive features, and educational challenges designed to help you and your family maintain better oral health at home.
BetterMouth doesn’t just help you brush your teeth — it helps you track your progress, stay motivated, and make lasting better habits. My husband and I even compete to see who can keep the longest streak!
If you’re trying to improve gum health, prevent tooth decay, or just feel proud of your healthy smile, this app makes it easy. From routine tracking to personalized tips, it brings a sense of fun and accountability to your oral care routine.
And the best part? You’ll likely notice significant improvements not just in your mouth, but in your dental checkups, too. Many of my patients who started using BetterMouth report brighter smiles, fewer cavities, and a stronger understanding of proper brushing techniques.
So if you’re looking for a way to upgrade your overall dental hygiene, prevent common oral health problems, and feel empowered to take charge of your oral care, I can’t recommend the BetterMouth app enough.
